| #1 & #2 PLATOON SHARE FIRST DUE FIRE |
| Date: |
12/24/07 |
As Number 2 platoon was beginning to start their shift and Number 1 was beginning to get some shut-eye from the night before, the bangs were heard issuing from the front door. The "occupant" from the unoccupied house was banging on the door of the firehouse with his hands crispy and socks melted to his feet saying that his house was on fire. Firefighters opened the front doors to see a large column of smoke from a residence across the street. Engine 11 laid out from the firehouse and arrived on-scene at 1368 Newton St. to find a three-story "end-of-the-row" row-house with smoke and fire showing from the 2nd and 3rd floors. Truck 6 arrived seconds later, calling communications to dispatch the box alarm assignment. Engine 11 pulled a crosslay and extinguished all fire on the first, second, and third floors. Truck 6 threw several ladders, searched, and vented. The bulk of the fire was extinguished prior to any other units arriving from the 4th Battalion. The assignment was soon scaled back to Engine 11 and 6 Truck. Photo courtesy of DCFD.com.
