TWO FIRES FOR #2 PLATOON
Date: 8/26/07 August 26th was a busy day in the 4th Batt. At 1443 hrs units responded to an apartment fire at 839 Kennedy St NW. Engine 11 was 4th due and ran their 350 into the building and assisted units in knocking down the fire while Truck 6 was on the WFD and assumed RIT duties. Later that day at 1743 hrs Engine 11 and Truck 6 took in a first due house fire in the 3900 blk of 14th St NW. Units made quick work of a small room and contents fire on the second floor.

TRUCK 6 ON 5th BATT SECOND ALARM
Date: 8/20/07 Truck Co. 6 took in this early morning fire responding on the second alarm to the 5300 blk of Macarthur Blvd. Lightning had stuck a house igniting this two alarm fire. Units were initially pulled out due to the instability of the roof but later rentered were Truck 6 was held for the extensive overhaul operation.

ENGINE 3RD DUE ON 801 RHODE ISLAND AVE FIRE
Date: 8/18/07 This fire involved an apartment on the 8th floor with the occupant hanging out the window awaiting rescue. Engine 11 ran their standpipe racks up, connected and assisted with knocking the fire in the apartment. Tower Ladder 3 (Franklin Square) made the rescue of the trapped occupant who was severlly burned. Well done men.

FIRST DUE HOUSE FIRE ON NEWTON PL NW
Date: 8/10/07 At around 0300 hrs Engine 11 and Truck 6 were alerted to 447 Newton Pl NW for the house fire. Units were greeted by a 3 story house with heavy fire in the basement which was working its way up to the fisrt floor. Engine 11 took their assigned postion on the first floor and kept the fire confined mostly to the basement. While waiting for the second due company to gain entry to and knock the fire in the basement Engine 11's lineman took a beating on the first floor. FF Russell Smith received burns to both ears, his forehead, wrist, and knees. FF Smith was transported to the Washington Hospital Centers burn unit where he received treatment and was released that day. We are glad to report that FF Smith will be back to work the first week in September and have no permenate scaring for his October wedding, well none physical anyway.
