At around noon on a colder than average day in the district, 4th Batt. units were dispatched to 2026 16th St for a house fire. The truck and engine arrived right behind E21 (1st due) with smoke showing from the 3rd floor. Engine 11 took the rear position and advised of fire showing from a 4 story rowhouse. Truck 6 laddered the building, vented, and opened up the house while Engine 11 assisted in extinguishment. |

At 0002 hrs the engine and truck were sent to 2822 Sherman Ave NW for a house fire. Units found a room and contents on the second floor. |

#3 Platoon was dispatched to a building a block away for an apartment on fire. Units arrived to find a elevator room off in the basement. Engine 11 extinguished the fire while Truck 6 opened up and ventilated.

| BUSY DAY FOR PLATOON #2 |

The day started out with a fire in the Columbia Heights Metro Station. A transformer on the platform level caught fire. Later that day Engine 11 and Truck 6 responded to the 3600 blk of Warder St for a house on fire. Companies made quick work of a fire located between the floors.

| TRASH FIRE WITH MINOR EXTENSION AT HOWARD UNIVERSITY |

At 1443 hrs Platoon #1 was dispatched to 600 W st NW at the Howard School of dentistry for a building on fire. A large pile of trash was on fire in a storm grate next to the structure. Initial units were able to knock the fire with minor extension. Truck 6 was 1st due, opened up and vented.

| BFC DAVID E. ZOLLARS RETIRES AFTER 36 YEARS ON THE JOB |

The 5th was BFC David Zollars last day in the DCFD. Chief Zollars was appointed to Engine Co. 30 in 1970, assigned to Truck 6 as a Lieutenant, returned as a Captain and retired as the 4th BFC on Platoon #1. The officers and members of Engine Co. 11 and Truck Co. 6 would like to congratulate him on 36 years of dedicated, unparalleled duty to the DCFD and wish him a long, happy retirement. It was a pleasure to serve under you.

This time Platoon #3 was called to a fire in the now all too familiar Marriott on Woodley Rd. A storage room was involved which required Truck 6 to vent the upper floors. Engine 11 was on the WFD and assumed the RIT responsibilities.

| ENGINE 11 FINDS HOUSE FIRE ON PLATOON #3 |

Engine 11 was returning from a medical local when they came across a house on fire at 1554 Shepherd St NW. The Engine took 1st due and notified OUC to "fill the box" bringing Truck 6 to the scene. The Engine then went to work extinguishing the fire involving an English basement while the Truck opened up and vented.
