Brush Fire in Rock Creek Park
Date: 1/17/09

Fourth Battalion firefighters spent the pre-dawn hours of Saturday, January 17th, battling a deep seated brush fire in Rock Creek Park.

The fire was located on Murrow Drive NW, which runs off 16th Street near the Carter Barron amphitheatre. Engine 24 was initially dispatched, but requested additional resources when the magnitude of the incident became apparent.

Eventually, 3 engines and a truck, under the command of the Fourth Battalion Chief, were needed to control the flames. The canteen unit also responded to the scene, due to a wind chill of minus 3. (DCFD.com)


Fatal Fire in Northeast
Date: 1/1/09 On January 1, 2009 units from the House of Flame responded to the house fire at 1014 Jackson Street NE. Truck 6 was dispatched on the WFD to assume RIT duties. When Truck 6 arrived on scene they assisted Truck 15 with making rescues from the 2nd floor via ground ladders on Side "A". Engine 11 on a transfer to Engine 17 was dispatched on the 2nd Alarm and advanced a 200' 1 1/2" handline from Engine 26 to the second floor to assist with extinguishing fire in the walls and in the attic. Both Engine 54 (Water Supply Wagon housed at E-11) and the 4th BFC responded as well. The 4th BFC which was initially in charge of Water Supply was reassigned to rehab. Ambulance 11 was also on the scene in the afternoon assisting family members.

Fire Showing From a Shaw Taxpayer
Date: 12/25/08 At 0851 hours, Engine 11 and Truck 6 were alerted on the Working Fire Dispatch to 617 Florida Avenue NW, in the Shaw neighborhood. Units were on scene with fire on all floors of a three story taxpayer. Engine 11 laid 900' of 3" to the front of the building and assisted units on the 2nd and 3rd floors with extinguishing fire. Additionally, Engine 11 stretched another line up Truck 4's aerial to the roof to knock down fire. Truck 6 arrived, was assigned RIT, and assisted with forcing entry to the heavily secured building.

With fire showing from all three floors and the roof, a second alarm was sounded. Despite the heavy fire conditions, crews maintained their aggressive interior attack and soon were able to contain the blaze.


New Wagon Driver for Engine 11
Date: 12/21/08 Congratulations to Private Frank Iscoa on successfully completing the Technician process. Pvt. Iscoa has been assigned to the back-step of Engine 11 for 8 years. The officers and members want to congratulate him on a job well done and wish him the best of luck as he continues as the Wagon Driver on Engine 11 #3.

Parking Garage Fire at DC USA Mall
Date: 12/17/08

In the evening of December 17th, fire communications transmitted the box for 3100 14th Street, NW in Engine 11's first due for a report of an auto on fire in an underground garage. This address is the new shopping mall in Columbia Heights. Engine 11 & Truck 6 (with A-11 tagging along) responded to the Hiatt Place entrance and found smoke showing from the garage entrance. The crew of E-11, under the command of Capt. Rice, stretched the 350' which was extended with a 100' rack. The men found an auto off on the P-1 level and extinguished the same. Truck 6 did a search of the area and was then tasked with an extensive smoke removal effort.

On a side note, FF Frank Iscoa made a comeback to #1 platoon for this fire while standing by for Tech Sinon. Congratulations to Frank on his recent promotion to Technician of E-11-3, we won't tell anyone you we're driving the truck.


4th Battalion House Fire
Date: 12/13/08

In the afternoon of December 13th, DCFD units responded to this house fire at 6409 13th St NW. Engine 11 went 3rd due, Truck 6 2nd due. Ambulance 11 & the 4th BFC also responded. Companies found smoke showing from the 1st floor & basement with a room off in the basement. E-11 backed up E-22 on the 1st floor. Truck 6 took the alley and forced entry to the rear, laddered the house, and ventilated. Fire was contained to the basement. BFC Faulkner (B-4-1) had command.


#2 Platoon on Attic Fire
Date: 11/20/08

DC firefighters battled a small attic fire in the Fourth Battalion on Thursday evening, November 20. The blaze erupted around 10:45 PM in a three story row home at 1372 Taylor Street NW. Units assigned on the box and working fire dispatch were able to quickly open and contain the flames to a small portion of the attic. (DCFD.com)


#1 Platoon on Furnace Fire in 2nd Due
Date: 11/19/08

Engine 11 (2nd Due), Truck 6 (1st Due), and Battalion Fire Chief 4 (Faulkner) responded to 4602 14th St., NW for "Smoke in the Apartment." Engine 11 and Truck 6 arrived 1st to find a 4 story apartment with nothing evident from the front. Upon making entry to the first floor, thick smoke was found issuing from the rear of the apartment. Truck 6 opened up the floor below the heater and found fire in the floor boards. Engine 11 advanced their attack line to the rear and was faced with several security devices. After the wagon driver and layout man forced entry in the rear, the crew was able to extinguish the fire in the basement ceiling. Truck 6 threw several ground ladders, forced entry, and assisted in ventilation and opening up. The fire was quickly placed under control.

Battalion 4 held Engine 24 (Dispatched 1st due) for overhaul and cleanup. All units cleared within an hour.


Promotions from the House of Flame
Date: 11/19/08

The Officers and Members of the House of Flame extend our congratulations to Sgt. Mike White, Sgt. Kenny Nehf, and Sgt. Chris Tucker. These men served the House of Flame proudly for the past several years. We wish them all the best of luck in their new promotions and hope that they are able to return to the House of Flame in the near future. Good Luck!


Engine 11, Truck 6, and Battalion 4 on First Due Rowhouse Blaze
Date: 11/18/08

Engine 11, Truck 6, and Battalion Chief 4, along with other units from the 4th Battalion were dispatched for the house fire at 1034 Quebec Pl., NW. Engine 11 arrived seconds after dispatch with fire showing from the first floor. Engine 11 advanced a pre-connected attack line into the fire floor and began to knock down the fire. Truck 6 threw over 6 ground ladders, placed the aerial ladder to the roof, vented laterally and vertically, removed security bars, and performed a primary search of the 1st and 2nd floors while Engine 11 and remaining 4th Battalion units worked on extinguishing the well-seated blaze. The occupancy was extremely cluttered with personal items and clothing. The fire conditions began to rapidly deteriorate forcing commanding officers to request 2 additional alarms for the possible exposure issues. Engine 11 and Truck 6 controlled the fire and rescue 1 dog successfully. Unfortunately, 1 adult female succumbed to her injuries associated with this fire.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the citizen who passed away at the residence.

Units remained on the scene assisting DCFD Fire Investigators for over 8 hours. Engine 11 and Truck 6 completed overhaul operations and returned to service.


#4 Platoon on Brightwood 2 Alarm Blaze
Date: 11/14/08

Engine 11 (4th Due), Truck 6 (2nd Due), and other units from the 4th Battalion were dispatched to 5505 5th St., NW for smoke coming from the building. First arriving units arrived to find a 5 story apartment/office building with smoke showing. Truck 6 arrived in the rear with heavy fire showing from the 1st floor. Engine 11 advanced a back-up line into the fire room and assisted Engine Co.22 with extinguishing the bulk of the fire. Truck 6 vented, threw numerous ground ladders, opened up the roof, and assisted in the extensive overhaul operations. The fire room was found to be a "Thrift Store" filled with clothes and other items of sale.

Battalion 4 held Truck 6 to assist remaining units with overhaul. All units cleared within 3 hours. A Second Alarm was sounded due to the amount of fire involving the building.


#1 Platoon on Mid-Day 4th Battalion Row House
Date: 11/11/08

Units from the 4th Battalion were dispatched to 2323 Sherman Ave., NW for smoke in the area. Engine 11 (3rd Due), Truck 6 (2nd Due), and Battalion Chief 4 (BFC Faulkner) responded from quarters. Engine 4 arrived seconds ahead of Engine 11 and reported heavy smoke and fire showing from the roof. Engine 11 picked up Engine 4's line and advanced the 350' attack line inside. Engine 11 extinguished fire on the first floor and made their way upstairs and extinguished fire on the second floor. Truck 6 arrived in the rear, placed the 100' aerial to the roof, threw several ground ladders, forced entry, and performed a primary search while waiting on Rescue Squad 1 to arrive. After the fire was extinguished, Truck 6 assisted with overhaul.

BFC-4 held Engine 4 & 9, Trucks 9 & 6 to assist the Fire Investigators.

11 Engine, 6 Truck Welcomes New Probationers
Date: 11/1/08 Probationary FF David Darbro, Probationary FF Daniel Maddox, Probationary FF Eric Smith, and Probationary FF Tim Deavers recently joined the ranks of Engine 11 after completing their initial stages of training at the DCFD training school. Welcome to these men and we wish them all the best of luck with their probationary studies.

Mother of Truck 6 Member Passes Away
Date: 11/1/08 The officers and members of the House of Flame extend our deepest sympathies to Thomas Carroll and his family. Tommy's mother passed away suddenly. Tommy is assigned as a firefighter to Truck 6, platoon #1.

Captain Ed Rice's Mother Passes Away After Long Battle
Date: 11/1/08 The officers and members of the House of Flame extend our deepest sympathies to Captain E. Rice and his family on the loss of his mother. Captain Rice's mother battled a terminal illness valiantly until her passing. Please keep the Rice family in your thoughts. Captain Rice is assigned as the Company Commander of Engine 11 on #1 Platoon.

Several Members Complete Probation with Outstanding Scores
Date: 11/1/08 Pvt. Eric Norris (Truck 6 #1), Pvt. Chris Rutter (Truck 6 #4), and Pvt. William Thompson (Truck 6 #3) all have completed their probationary studies. The members of Engine 11 and Truck 6 welcome these members and wish them great success in their future careers with the District of Columbia Fire Department.

Two Members of Engine 11 Pass the "District Exam"
for Technician Vacancy
Date: 11/1/08 Pvt. Frank Iscoa and Pvt. Russell Smith IV both successfully completed the initial test for the vacancy of Wagon Driver on #3 Platoon. These men are scheduled to take the next portion of their exam within the next two weeks. The officers and members wish them the best of luck in completing the process.

Engine 11 Attends Annual Antique Fire Apparatus Muster
Date: 9/21/08

The Armed Forces Retirement Home once again played host to the Fifth Annual Antique Fire Apparatus Show this past Saturday. Local 36 sponsors and promotes the event held each year to benefit the DC Firefighters Burn Foundation.

Apparatus awards were given in ten categories with plaques sponsored by Police & Firemen's Insurance Association. As always, the Emerald Society Pipes and Drums appointed themselves especially well, as did the DC Fire Department Barbecue Team. For the fifth year in a row, beautiful weather greeted friends, family, and visitors. (DCFD.com)

Date: 9/17/08 Engine 11 dispatched 4th due on the box alarm to the unit block of Todd Place, NE (Box 625). Engine 6 previously went on scene of the Local Alarm with "a good deal of fire showing in the rear", requested a Task Force, which was followed by the request for the Box Alarm and 2nd Alarm by Chief 1.

The fire ended up going to 4 alarms, spanning from #17 to #29 Todd Place, NE.

    Early Morning Apartment Fire for #1 Platoon
    Date: 9/1/08 Around 2 AM, 4th battalion companies responded to the 1400 block of Somerset Place for the report of "smoke in the building". While responding, communications advised that civilians were reported trapped in the building. First-due Engine 22 arrived with fire showing from one window on side Alpha. Due to limited rear access, Truck 6 (2nd due) was forced to take an aggressive off-road position to prepare for rescues. Members of Truck 6 forced entry to the rear and placed portable ladders to side C before moving to the fire floor. Engine 11 (4th due) advanced an additional attack line to the fire floor. Fire was contained to a room on the third floor. Several civilians were assisted to safety or sheltered in place. BFC Faulkner (B-4-1) had command.

    Special thanks to Rescue Squad 2 for helping with removing Truck 6 from the lawn on side C.

    Date: 9/1/08 FF Jarratt Harvell comes to Truck Co. 6 after serving several years at Engine 17. FF Harvell is assigned to Truck 6 on #3 Platoon. Welcome!

    Date: 9/1/08 Firefighter Josh McClellan (Truck 6 #2 Platoon) completed his probationary year with outstanding scores. Josh did an outstanding job with his studies and will continue to do well in his career with the DCFD. Congrats Josh.

    Engine 11 Welcomes Ryan Wagner
    Date: 9/1/08 The officers and members of the House of Flame welcome Private Ryan Wagner to Engine 11 #4 Platoon. Ryan joins Engine 11 after serving his first year at Engine 20 in Tenleytown.

    House of Flame Welcomes Back Battalion Chief John Faulkner
    Date: 8/23/08 Chief Faulkner comes back to Engine 11 as the 4th Battalion Chief, after getting promoted to the 3rd Battalion. The officers and members of Engine 11 and Truck 6 welcome back Chief Faulkner and hope his stay at the House of Flame is long and enjoyable.

    #3 PLATOON ON ANOTHER LIQUOR STORE FIRE
    Date: 8/17/08 Just before midnight, units with the 4th Battalion were alerted to the 900 block of Kennedy Street for the building fire.

    Units arrived to find heavy smoke showing from a one-story liquor store. As firefighters started attacking the fire, fire extended downward into the basement.

    The fire was placed under control within 15 minutes. Truck 6 operated for over 2 hours while Engine 11 assisted in the exposures.


    #2 PLATOON ON LIQUOR STORE FIRE
    Date: 8/9/08 Units with the 4th Battalion were dispatched to 646 Rock Creek Church Road, NW for the building fire. Engine 11 and Truck 6 (both first due) arrived to report heavy fire showing from a one-story liquor store. Access was initially hampered due to the structure being boarded up, but the trucks quickly opened up allowing the engines to knock down the fire. The fire was placed under control quickly and no extension to adjacent structures was found.

    One firefighter from Engine 11 was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. We are happy to report that a full recovery has been made by this firefighter.

    1333 HARVARD STREET FOR THE HOUSE
    Date: 8/4/08

    A dwelling in the city's Columbia Heights sections was struck by a small blaze on Monday morning, August 4th.

    Firefighters arrived at 1333 Harvard Street N.W. around 6:15 AM to find smoke showing from the front door of the three story row dwelling. Fire was found in a dryer with flames already extended into cabinets above.

    The blaze was quickly knocked down, and units worked to halt any further extension and clear smoke conditions. The air unit and an investigator were called in to assist.

    All occupants of the home were safely evacuated. Engine 11 and Truck 6 were both first due on the box and were held by command for overhaul.

    ENGINE 11 WELCOMES CAPTAIN E. RICE
    Date: 7/22/08 The officers and members of the House of Flame welcome back Captain E. Rice as the new Captain of Engine Co.11. Captain Rice served with Engine 11 as a Private and most recently served as a Lieutenant at Engine Co. 4.

    The Community was rather eager to welcome back Captain Rice to Columbia Heights. The community embassador, Ben (right), patriotically welcomes Captain Rice (left).

    PLATOON #1 ON THREE ALARM FIRE IN THE 4th BATTALION
    Date: 7/18/08

    Units from the 4th Battalion were dispatched to the 200 block of Longfellow St., NW for a house on fire. First arriving units found a middle of the row rowhouse with heavy smoke showing from side A. As additional companies began to arrive, units found heavy fire issuing from side charlie of two rowhouses. Companies mounted an aggressive interior attack while command requested an additional alarm because of the rapidly extending fire to the delta exposures and increasing wind.

    As Truck 6's driver and tillerman were operating on the roof with Truck 11's crew, Truck 11's Tillerman, FF Lewis, fell through the roof and a large column of fire erupted out of the hole. A MAYDAY was sounded for the missing firefighter. FF Lewis fell through the roof and into the second floor which was on fire. He was able to extricate himself onto a rear porch where a ladder was thrown to him and he was removed to an awaiting EMS unit. Luckily, FF Lewis is expected to make a full recovery.

    As the mayday was sounded, an additional (3rd Alarm) was sounded by command bringing more units and firefighters. Units continued to deal with extreme heat and smoke conditions in three rowhouses as they battled the intense & deep seated fire. The fire came under control within 40 minutes.

    The fire caused $1 million in damage to seven houses, including three homes across the alley in the 5500 block of Kansas Avenue due to radiant heat, one firefighter MAYDAY was resolved safely, several firefighters were transported for burns and heat exposure, and over 160 firefighters operated onscene.

    935 Florida Ave., NW for the Building Fire
    Date: 6/24/08

    Engine 11, Truck 6, and Battalion 4 were dispatched on 6/24/08 at 0400 to 935 Florida Ave., NW for the church fire. Engine 4 arrived onscene side Alpha with heavy fire showing from the top two floors. Engine 11 dispatched 5th arrived 3rd and was ordered to lay dual lines from Tower Ladder 3 to an independant water source. The Special Operations Battalion Chief advised command 6 that the building was vacant and en route Battalion 6 ordered all operations to be exterior. Engine 11 assisted with water supply while ladder pipes placed a quick knock down on the fire.

    Truck 6 was dispatched on the Working Fire Dispatch and assisted with the Rapid Intervention duties. Units operated for over three hours mopping up hot spots and cleaning up. Battalion 4 assisted at the command post.


    Chief John Lee Retires After 26 Years of Service
    Date: 6/20/08 The members of Engine 11, Truck 6, and Battalion 4 congratulate Chief John Lee, Battalion 4 #1 Platoon on his recent retirement. Chief Lee retired after service over 26 years of dedicated service to the District of Columbia Fire Department. We would like to congratulate Chief Lee and wish him the enjoyment of retirement.

    House of Flame Promotions
    Date: 6/20/08 Congratulations to Technicians Rych Pullen (Wagon Driver E-11 #3 Plt) and Chuck Jones (Truck Driver T-6 #3 Plt) and Sgt. Andy Spotts (Battalion Aide 4 #4 Plt) on their recent promotions. Sgt. Pullen will be assuming duty at Truck 4 #3 Plt., Sgt. Chuck Jones will be assuming duty at Truck 9 #3 Plt., and Lt. Spotts will be at Engine 4. All these men did exceptionally well on their promotional process and served the House of Flame well. We wish these men the best of luck in their new endeavours and hope that they return soon to the House of Flame.

    Welcome Back Sgt. O'Connor
    Date: 6/20/08 The House of Flame welcomes back Sgt. Paul O'Connor (T-6 #3 Plt). Sgt. O'Connor left the house upon his promotion to Sgt. and served 2 years at the Fire Prevention/Investigation Division. Sgt. O'Connor was a back-step fireman at Engine 11 for several years prior to his promotion. Welcome Back Sgt.

    MEMBERS PLAY IN EMERALD SOCIETY GOLF TOURNAMENT
    Date: 6/12/08 Members from Engine Company 11 participated in the Emerald Society Golf Tournament. The team won the firehouse division, making it 4 years in a row Engine Company 11 has won this title!

    Captain Faulkner Promoted to Third Battalion Chief
    Date: 6/11/08 Captain Faulkner (Engine 11, Platoon 1) was promoted to Battalion Fire Chief in the 3rd Battalion. We wish Chief Faulkner the most success in his promotion and are eagerly awaiting his reassignment back to the 4th Battalion on #1 Platoon.

    Truck 6 Technician Exam Results In
    Date: 6/11/08 Congratulations to FF Mike Gilson (T-6-3) on recieving the highest overall score on the Truck 6 Technician Examination. All members who completed the process did very well.

    Sergeant Mike LaCore Back to Full Duty
    Date: 6/9/08 The Officers and Members of the "House of Flame" welcome Sgt. Michael LaCore back to full duty. Sgt. LaCore suffered third degree burns over his body while battling a fire in the 1st Battalion over 6 months ago. We are glad his recovery went well and wish him the best success in the remainder of his fire department career. Welcome Back Sgt.

    Burn Foundation Holds Day Camp at the Fire Boat
    Date: 6/7/08 Several Members of the "House of Flame" organized a field trip for several children from the Washington Metro area. These children were given a tour of the fire boat, the firehouse, and enjoyed lots of food and fun. FF Woods (E11) and Hess (E11) were instrumental in the success of this event.

    PLATOON #1 ON FIRST DUE HOUSE
    Date: 6/2/08 Engine 11, Truck 6, and Battalion 4 were dispatched to the 1700 block of Shepherd St., NW for the house fire. Engine 11 laid out from 17th St. and arrived on side A of a two story single family detached house with smoke showing. Engine 24 arrived shortly thereafter reporting fire showing from the rear. An aggressive interior attack was mounted with Engine 11 and Truck 6. Engine 11 made quick work of the two rooms. Truck 6 threw several ground ladders, the aerial, and forced entry. All searches proved negative. Battalion 4 held units from the House of Flame for overhaul. All units cleared within 1 hour.

    YANKEE STADIUM TRIP
    Date: 5/22/08 16 members of E-11, T-6 and BFC 4 traveled to NYC to see the Yankees take on the Orioles for the last season played at Yankee Stadium. Members piled in a Limo Bus from Limousines Incorporated for the one day trip. The bus stopped in Philly, on the way up and back, for Cheesesteaks. It was a great time had by all. Thanks go out to Chuck Jones, T-6-3, for putting it together.

    PLATOON #1 ON WORKING FIRE IN 5TH BATTALION
    Date: 5/16/08 Engine 11, Truck 6, and Battalion 4 were dispatched to the 3800 blk. of Newark St., NW for the apartment fire. Initial units reported heavy smoke showing with an apartment off in the basement. Engine 11 arrived second due and advanced their line through side charlie and down the stairs. Engine 11 assisted in extinguishment of the apartment. Truck 6 arrived in the rear, threw several ground ladders, vented, searched, removed security bars, and assisted in overhaul. The wagon driver of Engine 11 assisted Rescue 2 members with the removal of several citizens out of windows and down ladders. All units cleared within 2 hours of dispatch.     PROMOTIONAL EXAM FOR DCFD
    Date: 4/26/08 Several members of the "House of Flame" took the written exam for the Promotional Process on 4/26. Several members did very well. We wish all members that took the test the best of luck with the remainder of the process.

    PLATOON #1 ON HOUSE IN 1ST BATTALION

    PLATOON #1 ON 4TH BATTALION HOUSE
    Date: 4/21/08 Engine 11 (2nd Due), Truck 6 (1st Due), and Chief 4 responded to the 1500 blk of Allison St. for the house on fire. The box alarm was unusual due to many units responding on another box alarm in the 4th Battalion. Engine 11 laid out from 16th St. and arrived in the rear of a two story middle of the row row house with smoke issuing from several windows. Truck 6 arrived in the front with heavy smoke from the first and second floors. An aggressive interior attack was mounted while Truck 6 opened-up and searched. The fire was knocked down within 10 minutes while units checked for extension. Battalion 4 had command and held Engine 9, Engine 11, and Truck 6. All units cleared the scene within 2 hours.     SERIOUS ACCIDENT INVOLVING MPD IN FRONT OF STATION
    Date: 4/17/08 As the House of Flame was relaxing after dinner, a loud crash was heard in front of the station. Members ran out and found a serious accident involving a Metropolitan Police Department squad car. After all was sorted out, two officers were found trapped in a police car that went off the road, and other bystanders were injured by flying debris. Crews from Engine 11, Truck 6, Engine 54 (water supply unit) and Ambulance 11 rendered care to all parties involved while Rescue 2 extricated the trapped officers. Both officers were transported to local trauma centers in serious but stable condition. We wish the injured MPD officers a speedy recovery from their injuries.

    WELCOME BACK PVT. SHYAB
    Date: 4/18/08 The officers and members of the "House of Flame" welcome back Private Charlie Shyab of Engine Co.4. Charlie has spent the last several months recovering from severe burns suffered while fighting a fire in Northeast. We are glad to see Charlie back in the company and wish him the best of luck in his long career ahead.

    FOUR MEN PASS TRUCK 6 TECHNICIAN WRITTEN EXAM
    Date: 4/17/08 FF Gilson, FF Carroll, FF McKnight, and FF Nehf completed the first stage of the Technician Exam process. These four men all passed the written exam for the possible upcoming vacancy of a Truck 6 driver. We wish them all the best of luck in the continued process.

    3636 16th ST, NW FOR THE APARTMENT FIRE
    Date: 4/14/08 11 ENGINE, 6 TRUCK, and the 4TH BATTALION responded to the apartment fire at 3636 16th St., NW. Engine 11 arrived 1st due and advanced their stand-pipe racks to the 9th floor. Upon making entry to the 9th floor, smoke was banked down to the floor. Engine 11 and Truck 6 located a fire in an apartment on the 9th floor. Engine 11 extinguished the fire while Truck 6 searched and vented.     SEVERAL ACTIVE MEMBERS ATTEND FUNERAL
    OF CAPTAIN (RET.) TRUMAN CONES
    Date: 4/11/08 Chief Mullikin (BFC 4), Captain Faulkner (E-11), Technician Baka (E-11), Technician Sinon (T-6), Sgt. Capps (BFC 4) and FF Rector (E-11) attended the funeral of Retired Truck 6 Captain Truman Cones. An impressive showing at the funeral of both active and retired members stood testament to the type of man Captain Cones truly was. The crowd overwhelmed the church sanctuary and the hallways leading into the church. The members and officers of the "HOUSE OF FLAME" extend our deepest sympathies to the Cones family.

    The officers and members of Engine Co.11 and Truck Co.6 extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Retired Captain Truman A. Cones. Captain Cones passed away on April 2, 2008.

    We had the great opportunity of seeing Captain Cones and his wife this past summer at the Engine 11 Reunion. Captain Cones will truly be missed.

    There will be a Memorial Mass at St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church, 620 Best Gate Rd. Annopolis Md. on Friday April 11,2008 at 9:30 A.M.

    TRUCK 6 ON NORTHEAST BLAZE FOR #1 PLATOON
    Date: 4/1/08 Truck Co.6 was dispatched on 4/1/08 for the apartment fire with reported people trapped at 3900 7th St., NE. Engine 17 arrived to find a two story apartment with fire coming from several windows. A strong interior attack was mounted and extinguished the fire in several minutes. Rescue Squad 2 removed one occupant from the structure. Unfortunately, the elderly female succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital. One firefighter suffered minor injuries on this fire. He is anticipated to be back to work shortly. Truck 6 cleared after 1 hour of work.
